To begin with, I would like to know if the ad-hoc marker is supported by Camunda engine or not. What’s more, since in ad-hoc subprocesses you mustn’t use any events, I assume using an ad-hoc marker with subprocesses under questions the nature of subprocess in which you have to use start and end events.

Ad-Hoc markers are not supported by the engine.
As an alternative you can use other BPMN symbols to model the same functionality or use CMMN.
