Configure SPIN with an XML-annotated custom data format , possible?

Hi,
Can anyone provide an example configuration extending Spin with custom data formats ?
The Camunda Docs says it’s a possibility, however I can’t really find an example all over the internet.

it’s old and written for the tomcat distribution: https://github.com/ingorichtsmeier/ingo-camunda-examples/tree/master/projects/xstream-variable-serializer-plugin

I havn’t checked this recently.
