What are the plans on desktop modeler as Camunda 7 will have its last community release next year, will Camunda 7 specific features be taken out of desktop modelers to make it very 8 specific? or will it be supported for desktop modeler beyond 2024
Hi,
there will always be a version of the Desktop Modeler that supports the latest Camunda 7 version but it might not be the latest Desktop Modeler version.
To add to @philippfromme’s comment: Desktop Modeler will likely continue to support Camunda 7 until enterprise support from Camunda runs out.
Beyond that point we’d want to consider mechanisms to add Camunda 7 support back in, i.e. through a community maintained plug-in, but this discussion is to be had, at some point.
Does that mean desktop modeler which supports 7 will live beyond the 2025 October which is EOL life for 7 for both community and enterprise customers? and we can continue to leverage it
I assume we will drop support for Camunda 7 once enterprise support runs out. This may imply moving support for Camunda 7 to a plug-in. This may go beyond October 2025, as there is long term support options in effect.
Official announcements will come once time is due, and you’ll always be able to fork the application (it is open source!) and roll your own.
