How to achieve native query for historic variable instances?

I just noticed, that there is no createNativeHistoricVariableInstanceQuery for the variable instance history. For the activity instance history there is a createNativeHistoricActivityInstanceQuery.
Is it planned to add createNativeHistoricVariableInstanceQuery?

How can I easily achieve a native query for variable instances? Or do I have to go for a custom query?

Native queries for historic variable instances is available since version 7.8.0-alpha3 and will be available with stable version 7.8.0 (https://app.camunda.com/jira/browse/CAM-5327)
