Modeler + Rest API; How to send deep JSON Request to start Process-Definition?

Hi, i have some trouble with the rest api and the Camunda Modeler.

I want to set a JSON in the request body (to set some variables to use them in Modeler) and start the process like “/process-definition/key/somekey/start”.

The json file have to look like this:

In the Modeler i have a bpmn with a xor-gateway.I want to give the SequenceFlow an expression for the request variable. like a dot-notation: ${product.category == 1}
I tried both methods from this documentation: JSON | docs.camunda.org

${S(product).prop(“category”).numberValue() == 1} or
${product.jsonPath(“$.category”).numberValue() == 1}.
They are not working for me…

I got still this response : {

I think your issue is your not creating the variable correctly. The engine is expecting a String and your creating a JSON object. The documentation states (quite briefly) S() api takes a string as input.

I’m starting this process with a String formatted as JSON using the Java API.

    JSONObject json = new JSONObject()
			.put(
				"meta", new JSONObject().put("category", 2)
				);
    Map<String, Object> varibles = Variables.putValue("product", json.toString());

In my expression task I can use the .prop notation with no problem.

you created an object in java “product”. i hoped it woud be worked without touching java?. - just the json input and the simple expression in the BPMN (created in modeler).

This is an example using JSON post request to the /start REST api.

Can you provide the stack trace from the app server? Looks like your missing a dependency.

It looks like your trying to call a Delegate in your service task that does not exist. Check the properties of the service task.

So now it worked…

I am not realy sure what i did wrong.

But it created a new BPMN like the old one. created a Script Task to convert the input String from the API

=> S(product) and the Sequence Flow got the expression:

My Input (REST API POST) look like this:
