Visibility of variables in operate

Is it possible to selectively hide variables shown in Camunda 8 operate?

We have defined some variables to fetch certain properties from application properties, upon triggering the workflow. There are some properties like secrets stored in these variables, to be configured as input attributes, different values across different environments. Hence, we do not want these values to be visible in operate.

Why can’t you use those properties directly? Why do you have to set them as variables and only then use them? I’m trying to understand the need.
